fisheries are managed by the National Marine Fisheries Service and 6
Regional Fisheries Management Councils.
As of Quarter 1, 2010:

fisheries are not overfished

79% of US
fisheries do not have overfishing occurring
The other U.S. fisheries
that are still considered overfished and where overfishing is occurring are
well managed and most are heading in the reportedly headed right direction.
